The pentagram symbolizes the dominion of Spirit over the elements of nature. With this sign, one can command elemental forces of fire, air, water, and earth. In its upright form, the pentagram drives away dark entities; inverted, it attracts them.

Placed on a threshold with the top point facing inward, the pentagram blocks the entrance of harmful magicians. It is the “flaming star,” the sign of the Word made flesh, and depending on its orientation, it can represent divinity or darkness — the Immolated Lamb or the goat of Mendes.
